Basic Guide to Anatomy and Physiology for Dental Care Professionals
An easy to read book, which complements the other books in the Basic Guide series from Wiley-Blackwell for DCPs. It is a well laid out book intended to provide the core knowledge of anatomy and physiology that all DCPs are required to have to pass examinations to be eligible for Registration with the General Dental Council. The book is divided into 10 chapters covering, the cardiovascular system, respiratory system, digestive system, nervous system, oral embryology and histology, skull and oral anatomy, tooth anatomy, periodontal anatomy, and salivary glands, so covering all areas of anatomy and physiology a DCP needs to know about. The book opens with a basic overview of biology which examines cell biology, basic tissues, organ and systems, disease processes, immunity and anatomical nomenclature. Each chapter is clearly written with good quality diagrams and photographs to illustrate key points and broken into appropriate sections, so making it easy to use as a revision tool. The text is easy to read and bullet points are used to point to key aspects of the subjects.
This is a well written 180-page book which is available in paper and ebook form. It is an ideal book for DCPs in training and practice libraries to stock for access by trainee dental nurses and a useful aide-mémoire of the subjects for dentists.
