I always look forward to articles by Martin Kelleher in the Dental Update journal, empathizing with pretty well all he has to say as vocalizing ‘common sense’ in practice, for instance, the ‘daughter test’ for treatment provision for patients, an ethic I hope I have practised myself for the overwhelming majority of my time as a GDP.

However, now with his latest article ‘…Who will guard the guards?’ I feel he has surpassed himself.

As I celebrate my 28th year of continuous GDC registration, I think I can recognize pretty well all the points he has raised and agree with him wholeheartedly. Thus here I am, driven, for the first time in my life, to write and thank a Dental Update contributor for having the gumption to get published an article which lays bare some uncomfortable, but self-evident, home truths for our regulators, ie the GDC. Congratulations and keep them coming!
