Dental Update Undergraduate Writing Competition
Showcase your clinical expertise and be published!
Are you a dental undergraduate with a compelling clinical case to share?
The Dental Update Undergraduate Writing Prize is your opportunity to have your work published in a leading journal and gain recognition for your writing skills.
For the first Dental Update Award, we are seeking entries for the best presentation of a clinical case by an undergraduate.
The competition is open to ALL dental school undergraduate GDC groups.
The best articles will be published in a special online issue of Dental Update in August 2025 and authors will receive a subscription to Dental Update. The winning submission will receive a cash prize.
Why enter?
Getting a publication with Dental Update looks great on your CV, especially if you’re thinking about specialising. Writing as a student gives you access to resources and guidance that may not be available once you qualify.
Zachary McCormick, 5th Year Dental Student, University of Shefield
I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to publish with Dental Update. The process getting papers approved has always been smooth with clear and supportive communication, and it is great seeing the final result come together. I have always used Dental Update for my own development both during my studies and beyond, I find the articles approachable to read and its fantastic to see what others are doing in the profession. Publishing in Dental Update allowed me to work alongside experts in their field, expand my knowledge, and broaden my experience within the dental and medical world; all of which helps when applying for specialties, and gives valuable talking points to discuss in interviews. I would highly encourage others to share their work and I hope to continue to do so myself in the years to come.
Michael Daldry, Peninsula Dental School graduate
Dental Update is a world-leading journal for dentists and dental care professionals within the UK and internationally. Having an undergraduate themed issue of the journal is a fantastic opportunity for students to get their first publication.
